Follow Me Back (Fight for Me #2) by A.L. Jackson
Kale Bryant. Arrogant. Gorgeous. Commanding.
This ER doctor is married to his job.
His only vice is one-night stands and short-lived flings.
He learned a long time ago loving someone isn’t worth the risk.
Harley Hope Masterson.
Beautiful. Brave. Sweet.
The owner of a small coffee shop knows what it’s like to struggle.
Embroiled in a bitter divorce, she’s threatened with losing everything.
When Kale accepts a new position down the street from Hope’s shop, he begins to question every wall he’s built around his heart.
He wants her in a way he hasn’t wanted anyone.
One touch is fire.
One kiss, and he’s spinning out of control.
But taking her won’t come without consequences.
Hope is in for the fight of her life.
One neither of them saw coming.
Now Kale must decide if loving her is worth risking it all.
She will fight with everything she has.
But sometimes even hope needs a hero...
What an emotional ride.
Kale is one of the sweetest guys. The way he was with Rex and Rynna’s kids was absolutely perfect and just showed he would do anything for his friends and their kids. But, damn, that man has a complete emotional block when it comes to relationships. I know he lost someone, which messed him up. But, it also made him into one of the best damn kid doctors ever! I mean, how can you not like a man who has dedicated his life to caring for children. Sexy, sweet and dedicated to saving kids lives? He’d really have to fuck up royally to make you dislike him. Not saying he didn’t skate along that edge, but I never wanted to slash his tires, I just wanted to yell at him a little bit….or a lot.
Then there’s Hope. She gives new meaning to living optimistically. She’s been knocked back so many times I was floored she was able to remain as happy as she did. But, she had a pretty important reason to always look on the bright side. She was the perfect match to Kale in that way with their matching life goals. But, in my opinion, she was a lot braver, a lot stronger and had a driving purpose to her life that made her way more beautiful than just her looks. She was the total package. Add in the quirky best friend, Jenna, and I looked for the chapters that were Hope’s, because they just made you feel good...most of the time.
I’m still a little unclear on what Hope and Jenna’s plan was to erase Dane from her son’s life, but it did add some tension to the story that pulled you right into the drama and understanding or not didn’t change the story.
I enjoyed the first book, Show Me the Way, but Follow Me Back hooked me in a way that the first one didn’t. I can’t wait to get to Ollie’s story and if Nikki doesn’t get her HEA, I’m not sure what I’ll do. I’m invested in these people and I just want them to be happy!
