Fearless (Rosewood Bay #1) by Carly Phillips
Fall in love with the Wards…
Mechanic and garage owner, Kane Harmon is used to the wealthy beautiful women visiting his beach town. He doesn't get involved because he knows most females would merely be slumming for the summer.
Except Halley Ward isn't just passing through. She lives a solitary life in a bungalow on the beach. A woman tormented by her past, distant from her wealthy family, different from Kane's usual fare of town girls who know his M.O.- Don't expect more than he's willing to give.
Kane rescues Halley and her broken down car from the side of the road and instantly he's hooked. She says she's not interested in him. He knows she lies. And he makes it his mission to bring her back to life, to return her emotionally to her family. To show her the colors around her were as vibrant as the ones she puts on her canvas.
Until past meets present and threatens all the progress they've made. Then it's Halley's turn to step up and stand up for the relationship and life she's finally coming to believe she deserves.
A Standalone Novel
Right off the bat, Kane Harmon stole my heart. I loved his laid back attitude but I also loved his determination and how observant he is.
Kane runs his family’s garage. He loves his sister and nephew and helps when he can and has to keep a close eye on his father, who has a bit of a gambling problem. Tired of the summer hookups, Kane wants more.
Halley Ward is back in town. Never one to want attention, especially because of her last name and the wealth that comes with it, she likes to be alone. Art is her life. Little did she know that her broken down car would put her life on a road she never expected.
The chemistry between Kane and Halley was amazing, even though she was a bit awkward and shy, it worked.
I had a hard time connecting with Halley. She teetered on the edge of liking and disliking for me. It was hard for me to like her and I really wanted to like her. Yes, her past was not the best but for me, it was lacking. Don’t get me wrong, it was bad but wasn’t what I was expecting and didn’t feel it was a huge reason for her to fear living her life. She was a bit weak for me and I waited for her to get her backbone or at least for her to prove she is somewhat strong.
Kane definitely made the story for me.
I am a fan of Carly Phillips and I hate that I have to say that this story fell a bit short for me. It didn’t stop me from reading it and I am still intrigued to read the next one.
If you are looking for a cute and sexy read, this is for you.
