Made of Steel (Made of Steel #1) by Ivy Smoak
Once upon a time, my name was Summer Brooks. I fell in love with a prince and my dreams went as far as the stars. I had my whole life figured out. I had my whole life in front of me. But my life wasn’t meant to be a fairy tale. Everything I knew was taken away in a flash.
Ten years of pain. Ten years of torture. I’m finally free. But I’m not Summer Brooks anymore. That girl died as soon as the devil himself put his hands on me. Now I live amongst the villains. They follow me like a plague. And I have a darkness inside of me that I can’t seem to escape. I lost everything, and I don’t know how to keep breathing in a city that has no stars.
But even though my appearance has changed, deep down I know that a shadow of the girl I once was still remains. I don’t want to give up on my past. I just need something to hold onto. Anything. And the only one that could possibly understand is someone who knows what it’s like to hide in the shadows. Someone else who knows what it’s like to live behind a mask.
The only thing I know for sure is that someone in this city is watching me. And I just hope to God it isn’t my past catching up to me.
I stumbled upon Ivy Smoak while browsing through Kindle books on Amazon. This book was a freebie.
This story sucked me in immediately. Summer/Sadie had a pretty good life. Her best friend, Miles (the boys she loves) and doting parents. Then tragedy strikes and Summer finds herself living with her grandmother, 4 hours away from her heart. Staying in touch with each other via letters, Miles and Summer continue to write each other until tragedy strikes again.
Summer is now in the foster care system and the boy she loved and counted on has stopped writing and she is stuck living a nightmare with no hope.
10 years later Summer is now known as Sadie. She is nervous but excited to be free of her nightmare. All she wants is to be a normal college kid and not have to look over her shoulder. She just wants to live her life in peace and fear-free.
When her past collides with her present (in more ways than one), Sadie finds that the boy she once loved is her R.A in the dorms and she does all she can to avoid him. Her roommate Kinsley helps her to loosen up. Then she meets Eli who becomes her friend and her boyfriend but her pull to Miles is still there.
Sadie unexpectedly finds herself in trouble and a mysterious man saves her. Both Miles and Eli are determined to keep her safe. With danger lurking in every corner, Sadie doesn’t know who to trust and last time she trusted her heart, it was shattered.
This is a suspenseful and dark romance. Revenge meets Arrow but in a book. I enjoyed this story and was left hanging with more questions than answers. I can’t wait to see what happens next!
