What I Need (Alabama Summer #4) by J. Daniels
From New York Times bestselling author, J. Daniels.
Riley Tennyson has made a huge mistake.
At least, that’s what she keeps telling herself.
Showing up to her brother’s wedding pissed off and newly single, Riley seeks comfort in solitude and an open bar, until the gorgeous and irresistibly charming CJ Tully makes her a better offer—a wild night with the master of smooth-talking where nothing is off limits.
Riley does what any single woman would do, and a connection is made. One neither one of them can ignore. But when she comes home to the boyfriend she no longer thought she had, Riley buries her secret and begs CJ to do the same.
Forget about each other. It was a mistake. That’s all it was… right?
Desires are hidden. Distance is kept. Until one night CJ makes the ultimate sacrifice, and Riley can no longer avoid the man she can’t stop thinking about.
Not with him sleeping down the hall…
**Warning: This book is recommended for readers over the age of 18 due to strong language and explicit sexual content.
Normally I'm not all that into cops and robbers. Not that Riley is a robber. But CJ is a cop. I'm sorry, a police officer. But I can't lie, whenever I think "cop" and "romance," I think porn. I think I watch too much shit on the internet.
At any rate.... this is not porn. It's not cops and robbers. It's motherfucking J. Daniels. Which means win-win for me.
The book starts off with a bang. I immediately want to dismember one of the character's faces and I like that. That engages me. What keeps me engaged is the awesome balance of humor, characters with depth, and some sizzling romance. CJ and Riley (and the fellow crew y'all know from Books 1-3) give me all that. And more. It's like a taco feast.
I'll try not to ruin the story for you. It's perfectly fast-paced keeping my A.D.D. in check. And within the first few chapters, I'm thinking "well, that was quick. CJ+Riley=4ever." And then the rug slips. And there is ice. And a pothole. And a minor earthquake. A small avalanche. And I fall.
That's the most hint I'll give. Oh. And her bro does get married.
At any rate. To summarize. This is not cops and robbers. This not a cheap 70's porn with a cop and a velcro uniform. This is classic J. Daniels hitting it up again with an uber entertaining, humourous romance with hottie, sensitive, alpha cop CJ and our luffly, fun Riley.
I applaud another Alabama Summer done right.
